In the High/Scope approach teachers and children are active partners in the learning process. This balanced approach to adult-child interaction- also called intentional teaching-is critical to the effectiveness of the program. It includes techniques for encouraging learning in specific content areas as well as strategies for helping children resolve conflict.”* The educational content of High/Scope Preschool programs is built around 58 key developmental indicators in five curriculum content areas. These areas of academic and social development advocated by the National Education Goals Panel are Language and literacy, Mathematics and Science, Social Skills, and the Arts.
Our exclusive, private Kindergarten/Kindergarten Prep Program is limited to just 15 students taught by a teacher and teacher assistant. The program is offered on both a full day and half day schedule and meets the needs of those children who will be 5 yrs. old by December 31. The Kindergarten Program offers a curriculum for children who have completed a 4 year old PreK program and is integrated across subjects and areas of development. The program utilizes a whole literature approach including phonics, offering children integrated learning experiences in language, reading, math, science, social studies and the arts. Readiness for reading is developed through rich language experiences & exposure to numerous literature based activities. Kindergarten students are offered opportunities to develop flexible thinking, solve problems, and to learn through meaningful and interesting activities, thereby increasing a solid sense of their own competence.
Role of the Teacher
